Seminar by Dr. Im Hong-Sun from Kyrgyzstan – "Beyond Permanent Magnets: SRM & Non-PM Motors Reshaping EVs"

On May 6, 2025, Konkuk University's graduate course on High-Efficiency Grid-Connected Power Devices (5644-01) hosted an in-person seminar, welcoming Dr. Im Hong-Sun from Kyrgyzstan. The lecture, titled "Beyond Permanent Magnets: SRM & Non-PM Motors Reshaping EVs," offered a compelling look at the future of electric vehicle motor technology.


Dr. Im discussed the limitations of permanent magnet-based motors, including rare earth dependency and price volatility, and presented Switched Reluctance Motors (SRM) as a promising alternative. His insights highlighted the growing need for innovative motor solutions as the EV market continues to expand globally.
